Brief: Adapting ‘DNA’ to the Humanistic Space
Warner Music has appointed Bean Bro to design a new workplace for its operations in Singapore. The gist was to design a space with unique attributes while retaining much of the same ‘DNA’ from Warner Music’s previous successor workplaces we designed in Hong Kong and Beijing.Overall, the design will improve upon the previous office with new concepts such as collaborative work and the creation of a humanized space that supports dynamic interaction between employees and a host of visiting artists.
The Process: Creating a Memorable Admissions Experience
We maintained a strong entrance experience with an unobstructed view of the iconic Marina Bay outside as you enter the workplace. The front of the house is a cozy foyer with in-wall booths and an art mural by Tobiat. The main open space is a lounge with a performance stage with a large LED screen as a backdrop and an open pantry opposite. The Solution: A Layout That Maximizes Natural Light
Entirely open-plan workplaces are set against the backdrop of enclosed rooms such as boardrooms, conference rooms, and phone booths for maximum daylight and nature views. The director’s room is right next to the working cluster and separated by a large glass partition. We created a room where visiting artists can have their makeup and styling done in an enclosed rest space next to the performance stage. There is also a music room where employees can listen to music, and it is designed as a corner room with plenty of natural light to work or relax. It is equipped with AV equipment and various acoustic solutions to suppress noise and reduce reverberation.
Materials: A warm, earthy palette for productivity and wellness
To promote a sociable and energetic atmosphere and reflect the dynamic identity of the brand, we use colors and materials to maximize user productivity while at the same time prioritizing user health and comfort. It was essential to clarify the identity of For example, the front of the house has a unique combination of natural stainless steel panels balanced with wood and leather fittings. The entire floor is an eco-friendly terrazzo floor and the ceiling is painted in earth colors to reinforce the identity of the workplace. In the general workspace, on the other hand, the atmosphere and feel is very calm, airy and fresh thanks to the light wood colors and various soft materials such as fabric wall coverings and carpets.Specify environmentally friendly materials whenever possible. It also improved energy efficiency by bringing natural light into the work environment, rather than relying entirely on artificial lighting. Most of the furniture and bespoke fittings are designed to be removable for future reuse by the client, potentially extending the life cycle.
Challenge: Sophisticated Acoustics for Optimal Sound Separation
The challenge we successfully overcame was establishing the optimal acoustic solution for this space. While it was essential to allow activities such as playing music and giving demos throughout this music-driven workplace, we also needed to provide areas where we could work more focused. That’s why we’ve created a variety of work environments, including large conference rooms, small conference rooms, phone booths, semi-enclosed collaboration booths, and lounge furniture for informal work. These options allow for good acoustic isolation while other areas encourage social interaction.
