Kitchen overview
People who live here: This is the vacation home of a retired couple.
position: Napa, California
size: 260 square feet (24 square meters)
designer: Jane Ellison
Before: Please note that this is not a mod. Everything here was burned to the ground. However, the photos show the floor plan the couple lived in before the fire. The house had a floor plan with rooms compartmentalized and isolated from each other.
Twenty-two of the 55 condominiums in the community burned down, so HOA hired an architect to design new exterior walls, plumbing and electrical systems. After that, the owner of the house had to take it out of there. It took him five years before the condo was ready to move in, due to high demand for skilled workers, a pandemic and supply chain issues.
“This homeowner loves to cook and socialize. They have three grown children, lots of grandchildren, and lots of friends who want to hang out here,” says Ellison. She knew that open layouts were more entertaining than closed designs.
