There has been so much modding progress since the last update here on the blog! From space demos that began in early March to installing floors, sinks and cabinets to everything that’s happened recently in the past two weeks, it’s wild to think how far we’ve come.
It’s coming together exactly how I pictured it, there are still a lot of details left, but I’m excited to have them completed or brought to you in the coming weeks (I can’t wait for BEATRIX!) every day, so much It’s close. I am currently cooking in my new kitchen.
The last two weeks have been really exciting, so I thought I’d post to catch up on the current situation. There have been some fun developments over the past few days, so I’ll share some of them in today’s post.

The contractor installed French doors that look AMAZING! All the contractors and others who have visited are constantly commenting as it just adds a lot to the room. The doors are beautiful with sidelights and transoms and are a true statement feature in our kitchen’s prominent wall! Plus, bringing in natural light made an incredible difference to the room.
There are also marble and soapstone counters, which are more spectacular than you can imagine.
Everyone tries to dissuade you from real stones, but if you have them, you have probably experienced the same thing! I’m glad they do because I want to let you know what you need to know. I’m so happy to hear about our ‘eternal home’!
Of course, we have been happy with our Quartz over the past two kitchen visits. It can be beautiful too! In fact, we chose quartz for those homes because my husband didn’t have to worry about the counters, but we changed our minds about this home and this season of our lives. Did.
Real stone isn’t always the right choice for everyone and every home. There is more than just beautiful materials. I think real stone is what you feel when you are in the room. It’s an organic element that brings history and character that a manufactured countertop just can’t deliver.
See this post for why I chose these materials for this kitchen. You can also see a post here about a quartz counter that was in my previous kitchen.
A lot has happened here this past week. They have focused on trimming doors and casing openings between rooms. Previously, the openings between the rooms were just drywall, so adding some case molding would give us that extra finishing touch! We already had a contractor make his two openings taller and wider. I got it. This really opened up the room and made it less choppy (without taking away the feeling of being your own space). It also allows light to pass through easily.
The opening between the entrance and the living room was also newly trimmed (above), so it looks very nice.
Another exciting development is that they have started adding tongue-and-groove beadboards to the walls and V-groove tongue-and-groove ceilings in the kitchen and dining room. I have always appreciated the texture and character that classic painted wood paneling adds to a home. ), and four more recent homes have also had painted panels added.
The panels have a classic look that feels like home to me. this book, it’s one of my favorite home design books (written by an architect, so overall nice). You can see my photos of the contents of the book in this post.
With very little wall space in the kitchen and dining room, rather than further carving up the space with different wall colors and other wall treatments, the overall look is softened and wood paneling is used on all exposed walls. decided to install the ceilings in those rooms. Then paint all the cabinets and trim to match.
Maybe today or next week, I’m going to add some crown molding around each room to tie it all together and give it a seamless, cohesive look. Can’t wait to share them!
They also start prepping for paint on Monday, so that means we’re really doing the stretch of the house. We will share more in the next update.
