In Tampa, a mother recently threw her 3-year-old daughter Lucy’s surprise birthday party not at a bouncy house or pool, but at an unexpected place: IKEA.
A TikTok video documenting their memorable day shows how IKEA throws a party for kids. First, an IKEA employee greets the family at the front door and ties the celebrant with a sash. Guests are then shown to private rooms, which are decorated in blue and yellow with balloons, tablecloths and even party hats.
For lunch we had pizza, mac & cheese and of course meatballs. Afterwards, all the kids did a treasure hunt around the showroom before settling down with cake and ice cream. Finally, the store staff gathered to sing Lucy happy birthday before giving the toddler his own IKEA shirt and a giant greeting card with everyone’s autographs on it. ah!
“Thank you, Tampa IKEA, for going above and beyond,” Lucy’s mom said.
In the comments section of the video, people were both surprised and curious. After all, many people didn’t know that a Swedish furniture store could host a private event.
“Since when did IKEA start throwing birthday parties?” some read the comments, while others said, “I want this as a 25-year-old.”
So how do you host a birthday party at IKEA? Well, it depends on your location.and ikea indiaFor example, a group can reserve a restaurant for a private event. So lucky! At IKEA USA, Lucy’s mom did it for us, so just ask.
“IKEA USA replied to me on Facebook and liked the idea. They love Lucy,” she said in another video. “They sent it to IKEA in Tampa and they said, ‘Hey guys, what do you think about this? Is there anything you want to do?’ Throw in a dream team at IKEA Tampa.”
Whether or not I can convince my local IKEA store to host a private event depends on a number of factors, but the good news is how popular Lucy’s birthday party video is on social media. So they are currently considering making it a regular service.
Lucy’s mother added: “Unfortunately, there is nothing they can offer yet. I hope we can change the world, so children and adults alike can have birthday parties at IKEA.”
