Pheebs, Joe, Mon, Luck, Chanandra Vonn, and… twice divorced? You know them, you love them, we love their apartment.
In 1994, our world changed forever when we met the most iconic group of friends ever. Besides their bright and charismatic personalities, we forget to mention one important part of the show… Rachel and Monica’s kitchen.maybe it wasn’t everyone’s A cup of tea, but for many of us, this purple-yellow-green kitchen will remain infamous for decades to come…so it’s been around for two years already.
Let’s break down some of our favorite details about one of TV’s most iconic kitchens.
one with all the details
One of my favorite trinkets in Friends Kitchen is the mismatched table and chairs. There is some credence to the story of twenty-somethings finding a table and suitable chairs to make their first apartment a place to call home, creating a gathering place for friends.
And don’t forget Monica is a chef. You wouldn’t be a chef without a gas stove and easily accessible pots and pans. However, this space doesn’t have much space to prepare food…the less space Rachel has to prepare Thanksgiving trifles, the better.
The attention to detail in this set is one of the things that makes this sitcom unique and relatable. Cute magnets, notes, and sometimes gang photos—the same things you’d find on the fridge in any apartment or home.
In an old New York apartment building, you’d naturally expect to see an inviting glimpse of the exposed brick exterior. This makes the home the girls share even more personalized to match the lively residents. You can’t help but fall in love with this quirky kitchen.
who has all the memories
Whether you’re an avid Friends watcher or not, you can make a reservation. You can probably find this kitchen in the lineup. From the first scene where Monica welcomes runaway bride Rachel into the house, to the guys challenging the girls to poker, to Phoebe’s famous “Hey, he’s her lobster” when Ross and Rachel share the momentous kiss. All 10 Thanksgiving dinners, Chandler, and Joey temporarily moved in after winning a “friendly” game of trivia, until the series finale when the entire crew left their keys behind (we all shed an embarrassing amount of tears), this iconic and one-of-a-kind kitchen holds a decade of memories for both the cast and the avid fans.
A pillar of the 90s sitcom era, the show and its special set will be celebrated for decades to come. Friends has been a phenomenon for her 20 years here, and we’ll never forget this dynamic cast we’ve seen grow up in Monica and Rachel’s kitchen.
