Turn off the heat at night and stay warm in bed
In the UK, electricity prices will quadruple in 2023. Many people didn’t understand that this meant higher electricity prices. They just seemed to go about their business until the next electrical reading and bill arrived on their doorstep or account.
The problem then started with people not understanding that they were being charged £400 instead of the usual £100 for electricity. Electricity prices rise incredibly during the winter months, so many people struggle to keep up.
A warm bed is essential for a good night’s sleep, especially in cold weather. However, not everyone has access to central heating and some may want to reduce their energy consumption. Don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to keep your bed comfortable without resorting to traditional heating systems.
Here’s a simple solution to get a warm and comfortable bed all night without electricity at night, free once installed.
I have a small apartment in Scotland and the climate here is very cold and humid during the winter and the early months before and after winter. I’ve started sleeping without electricity at night because my electricity bill is so incredibly high.
To save a few pennies here and there, make sure everything is switched off, even on standby. Everything sums up.
We explore different ways and tips to create a warm and comfortable sleeping environment without spending a fortune or using energy-intensive heating options.
what you need to keep warm
a bed and mattress or sleeping bag. I won’t go into too much detail on these as it’s obvious that one of these in combination with a few other items will help you stay warm at night.
layer up
Layering is one of the most effective ways to stay warm. Start with the fitted sheet and continue with the top sheet, blanket, comforter or duvet. The air trapped between each layer acts as insulation, retaining body heat and keeping you warm all night long.
top quality mattress cover
The idea here is to keep heat within the bed rather than escaping it from the body through the mattress. A quality mattress cover fits snugly over your mattress and does what it’s supposed to do.
choosing the right bedding
Buy flannel or fleece sheets that insulate well. Choose a heavier comforter or duvet, preferably filled with down or synthetics, which provides good insulation without adding bulk.
Perfect comforter for winter
A comforter is an obvious choice and should be one designed to keep you warm in the winter. Not a summer quilt. If you have a large bed, use a quilt over the edge of the bed to keep you warm as you move around and prevent gaps in the bed from letting in cold air from the room.

use a weighted blanket
So you add a thermal mattress cover to organize the base of your bed, buy some decent fleece bedding to keep you warm, and a quality winter blanket that fits snugly over your bed to keep your air pockets warm. I bought a quilt. ?
What about thick blankets? I introduced this to my bed on a very cold night. Mattress toppers come into play when the outside temperature is around 3 degrees.
This keeps the warmth that is produced in the same place in the bed. Also, the weight of the topper helps many people like me sleep better by limiting the amount of time I spend moving around in bed.
weighted blanket
With huge sales figures and extremely high ratings, we know that thick blankets are at the top of the list for many people.
I also love the feeling of weight when snuggling up in bed. It’s not excessive, but just enough to help you relax and stay still at night, keep you warm in bed, and keep the quilt from escaping.

warm the bed before going to bed
Use it before going to bed. hot water bottle This is to warm the bed before entering. I have two hot water bottles as shown below. I use both and put them in bed about 30 minutes before bed.

We used to pre-warm the sheets using an electric heating pad. You can also heat a blanket or pajamas by putting them in the dryer for a few minutes. Sadly, with electricity bills, keeping an electric blanket on all night is no longer a cheap option.
However, if you want a constant feeling of warmth and warmth in your bed all night, opt for an electric blanket that isn’t expensive enough to last 6-8 hours each night.
I tried the electric blanket idea. For me, it’s no starter. Use electricity all night while you sleep when you don’t need it. The cost quickly increases to over a month.
Use draft stopper
Cold drafts can easily enter the bedroom and make the bed uncomfortable. Use draft stoppers at the bottom of doors and windows to keep cold air out and maintain a warmer sleeping environment.
I personally have this draft stopper. It’s perfect because you don’t have to keep pressing it every time you open or close the door. This alone is great for homes and apartments where drafts can flow from room to room, and can easily keep the air warm in your bedroom at night.
wear warm sleepwear

keep feet warm
Cold feet interfere with sleep and make it difficult to feel warm in bed. Wear warm socks or tuck your feet in high-quality slippers when walking around the house. These are my slippers. I use it in conjunction with the socks below.
these are my foot warmers. Works perfectly when paired with quality socks. I also wear mittens on my missing fingertips. So you can work on your computer without turning the heat on all the way and only using the room heater regularly to keep the airflow warm.
Use small low kWh heaters
There is one heater in the bedroom and one in the living room. I use it instead of turning on the heating all day. What’s the point of using electricity in my house that I don’t have for 8 hours a day?
By practicing these simple tips and tricks, you can create a warm and comfortable bed without relying on energy-hungry heating systems. This saves you money, reduces your carbon footprint and allows you to sleep comfortably and responsibly.
