Think about the last time you set foot in your home. Felt something. Maybe it was curiosity, a sense of calmness, or a shift in energy you couldn’t quite locate or explain. yeah. It is the culmination of individual expressions within that wall. This is how you breathe life into an empty shell.that’s what makes our home Personal.
Limited budgets, Instagram envy, and being overwhelmed can all make having “personality” in a home feel out of reach. I wish I had a budget, or a broad sense of style. It happens to all of us. So why not look for ways we can embrace what we are and bring out that personality from within? Easier said than done, but this post will give you a head start. .
These are my 7 favorite ways to add personality to your home…
1. Consider the unique nature of your space.
understanding the details of your home won’t Change is a great place to start. A big aspect of building “character” in your home is figuring out how to create unique combinations of elements that represent your personal style. is. contrast architectural style.
If your space is very traditional, contrasting mid-century modern pieces might be a great way to infuse more personality. makes a beautiful and unique statement.
If your space is industrial, a crystal chandelier could sparkle in a completely different way.
If your space is modern, be bold de GournayThe antique chair-inspired print creates a stunning focal point. As an example, take a look at the (very) modern apartment where Joe and I first lived together. With sharp lines and white walls, I did everything I could to give it character. We added antique pieces, like the trunk pictured below, and substantial furnishings, like the adjacent oversized leather chair, which contrasted with the otherwise airy feel of the space.
2. Accept works with “imperfections”.
There is nothing I love more than a little effortless wear and tear on ornaments and furniture. From the worn spine of your book to the chipped edge of your coffee table, imperfection = life, and life infuses your home with energy. Things like vintage rugs with holes shouldn’t be seen immediately when shopping. A patch or repair can provide a unique quality to your home’s overall story.
This is especially helpful to keep in mind when shopping at thrift stores, antique stores, and FB Marketplace. These imperfections may be just what your home needs. Which brings us to the next point.
Home features aren’t limited to unique accents, attractive windows, and original hardwood floors. It is the culmination of individual expressions within that wall. . . that’s what makes our homes Personal.
3. Buy used items!
Nothing makes a home feel more unique than a one-of-a-kind piece. I also love shopping at places like Target, but I’m more attached to the pieces I find in things no one wanted because I know I’m unlikely to source the same items anywhere else. I have.
Hunting can feel overwhelming at times, and if your first few trips to an antique store are fruitless, before you realize the magic of finding the perfect item hidden behind the junk You may be tempted to give up on it.

4. View your collection.
Many of my decorations center around things I like to collect: vases, brass figurines, colorful candles, and lace tablecloths. Small decorative elements look great in odd numbers (3, 5, 7) and can add visual interest to bookshelves, coffee tables, and side tables. various heights and sizesAnything can be a collection!
5. Create space for hobbies.
Besides showing off your collection, you can liven up your home by dedicating space to the artifacts of your favorite hobbies. do you like puzzles? Set up a small cafe table in front of the window, cover it with a tablecloth, and stack some of your favorite puzzle boxes. All of a sudden, it added a new seating area, textured fabrics, and a pretty vignette that doubled as a haven after a long day at work.
6. Add colors and patterns.
Whether it’s fresh flowers, contrasting throw pillows, patterned blankets, cushions, or an explosion of prints lining the walls, every space benefits from the life that color brings. That doesn’t mean painting a room a warm coral color is right for everyone, but it’s easy to forget that even the most minimalistic space can find purpose in something dynamic. It may be a small pattern print of.

7. Decorate the windows with textures.
One of my favorite ways to somehow make a window look “complete” is to add different textured blinds and curtains. Bamboo shades with striped linen curtains? Very nice and layered, no assembly required. Balance has a bad reputation for feeling stuffy, but if you’re decorating a bedroom that lacks architectural interest or just needs some ‘liveliness’, this is a great way to make it feel sophisticated.
