Why is it taking so long during my kitchen remodel?
A few years ago, my sister Allison remodeled her kitchen. Her kitchen is one of over 100 kitchens sold by Main Line Kitchen Design this year, but working with a family gives her an intimate perspective that helps her make important decisions when it comes to remodeling. It helped me better understand the value of taking the time I need.
Like many of our customers, Alison’s kitchen continued to transform as she and her husband made every choice.
Early in the design process, Alison and her husband Kevin worked on some of my design ideas. While removing the load-bearing wall between the dining room and kitchen was something everyone agreed on, closing the doorway and choosing a peninsula instead of an island were two recommendations they found difficult to feel comfortable with. We had to consider other alternative designs and time before we felt these choices were right for everyone.

After the design was completed, there was some delay until all parts of the complex retrofit project were worked out.
Finding a contractor was especially difficult because my sister lives outside of Boston. We recommend using Houzz.com, Angie’s list, and her friends as your most trusted resource for finding general contractors. After several meetings with contractors, she met her final chosen contractor, Terrence. Allison’s willingness to take her time until she found a competent contractor paid off. The help she got from Terrence and his attention to detail was invaluable.
During the design process, their initial choice of traditional door style became a more transitional one.
The cabinet color is now eggshell instead of beige. Also, the tile designs throughout the range are simpler and less dramatic.
The granite countertops they chose were also influenced by Alison’s extended timeline. She started noticing the Level 1 granite colors used in restaurants and hotels, and as she got used to them, she didn’t like those colors as much.

In the end, my sister got a beautiful kitchen that she loves.
She told me that sometimes she finds an excuse to go downstairs just to see the kitchen. The element she likes the most is if she had rushed to renovate her soon, it wouldn’t have been her choice.
frequent time It’s an investment people can’t make to get the best kitchen at the best price.
Plan carefully, get expert help as you make your choices, and learn about the products you’re considering. Give yourself a little more time, like your sister Allison, and your kitchen will be a place that makes you feel good every time you enter it.

Take your time remodeling and get the best kitchen…and of course…
