Project procedure
First, the creative DIY enthusiast took three lower cabinets with drawers and mounted them in line. They decided they needed a little more counter space than the standard 24 inches deep, so they added 2×4 lumber to make the frame a little longer. They said the frame will add about 6 inches to the rear end of the cabinet, with plans for a total of another 12 to 15 inches for the countertop.
The creator said she could add cabinet panels to the back of the island, but in her case, she decided to add some shiplap for a little more personality. This is also a great way to create visual interest in your kitchen. As for the sides, she said you can get creative by adding storage and wine racks.
For her, she decided to use wood glue and brad nailer to attach standard cabinet panels. Doing this creates a nice, seamless look without being bulky. , I installed some outer corner moldings on the corners to keep everything together and looking great.
Once everything was complete, I painted the back of the island a beautiful gray color to match the rest of the kitchen. As for the countertops, she added a stunning glowing white quartz that looks incredible against the gray.
She also used long black metal drawer handles that, in my opinion, really pulled off the modern look. This shows that practically anyone can do her DIY with a little searching online.

I agree that this great little YouTube short is a great example of how to DIY something that looks overwhelming, but it’s actually pretty easy if you have the materials and tools.
