My backyard is very small, but it’s a lot of fun to keep it clean. Our home already has a built in gas fireplace and we plan to add a small deck just outside the kitchen through the French doors. I imagine a place to sit and a potted plant. I also ordered climbing roses to be planted on both sides of the French doors. I can’t wait to add as many flowers and plants as possible to give it a little cottage garden feel.
In addition to the fun of gardening, our goal when designing our backyard is to create a welcoming atmosphere for families to visit on summer evenings. To put together the right design elements, you first need to visualize the experience you want people to have. While imagining people gathering there, what do you need to make it a fun space? Of course, this is true for backyards of any size, but in smaller backyards you have to be intentional about making the most of every nook and cranny.

I love mood boards. Because mood boards don’t just help you visualize what your space will look like. lookbut also how it happens felt (All senses!). This mood board shows friends and family chatting cheerfully over a barbecue, soft music playing in the background, and a serving cart pouring a glass of refreshing lemonade. , I can imagine sniffing the pleasant scent of roses. Gathering on the trellis, making s’mores around the fireplace…I love those summer nights! i can’t wait! Look forward to seeing how our backyard comes together :).
