Gensler redesigned the Ackridge office in Washington, DC, creating a modern space that pays homage to the building’s history with organic patterns, building materials and more collaboration areas.
Gensler We transformed an outdated and closed space into a bright and open office. Ackridge Located in Washington DC.
One of Washington, DC’s long-standing developers, Akridge is a visionary pioneer in the real estate industry that enriches communities through a thoughtful approach to urban shaping. A resident of one of downtown Washington’s oldest and most elegant buildings, the Homer Building, for more than 30 years, Ackridge has chosen to represent its values and processes while introducing new ways of working. It was decided to proceed with the renovation of the site. The resulting space reveals an elegant push-pull between modernity and tradition, offering new perspectives alongside historic buildings that serve as evidence of Ackridge’s stronghold in the district.
From the beginning, Akridge worked with Gensler to design a contemporary workplace. A workshop with Akridge’s team revealed that a key part of the design approach was to pay homage to the structured grid of Homer’s buildings while simultaneously contrasting them with organic forms. rice field. Inspired by the willow trees that line downtown streets, a delicate laser-cut patterned screen covers his 30-foot wall behind the reception area. This statement piece brings organic movement and creates a strong first impression. Upon entering the workplace, this pattern is repeated by wrapping the pillars along the central collaboration he area that connects the offices.
The visual experience of space is enriched by durable building materials such as wood, concrete, glass and metal. The use of these core materials in their raw form encompasses Ackridge’s approach not only to its own spaces, but also to many iconic projects within the city.
The workplace design with its innovative new layout represents the advancement of Akridge. By reducing the size of the office, we were able to create more collaboration areas such as a working cafe, coffee his bar and lounge. These central spaces have enhanced engagement and interconnection between Akridge’s development, project management, leasing, investment and property management teams, supporting employee interaction and synergies across the business.
