If you have limited floor space but high ceilings, mezzanine levels are a great way to expand your usable living space. Since mezzanine rooms often have limited headroom, it is recommended that the platform be used for purposes that do not require sufficient ceiling height. This limitation is not an issue in rooms where you plan to lie down mostly, like bedrooms. Plus, tuck your sleeping space away from your open-plan living space for more privacy. In this collection of 40 mezzanine bedrooms, we’ll explore concepts of all sizes and aesthetics, as well as helpful tips for your design.

A partial mezzanine keeps the bed off the floor while maintaining the ceiling height of the living space. A librarian’s ladder access point takes up very little floor space, and you can even use the ladder to reach high shelves in the room.

The natural wood mezzanine structure adds beautiful warmth and texture to the high ceiling interior. Apply lots of lush green indoor plants to add to the rustic beauty.

Large loft apartments have generous ceiling heights and widths to create luxurious and authentic bedroom spaces. Maintain the airy mezzanine look with open metal railings or glass panels that share natural light.

For more privacy, the half-height mezzanine can be filled with attractive panels. Install musalabi screens or portholes to trickle in natural light from your living space. See more images here.

This glass-walled mezzanine bedroom lets in all the natural light available. Below is a windowless bathroom and an attractive backlit entry closet.

To save space on the ground, a small mezzanine or loft bed structure can be hung from the ceiling. Permanent stairs should also serve as everyday storage.

Wooden louvered walls and doors provide a level of privacy and space division while maintaining airflow and light sharing.

Disguise the mezzanine staircase into a stepped bookshelf design.

An elongated platform combines the bedroom space with the home library. Shallow bookshelves make good use of limited aisles.

Keep colors bright and vibrant in a compact space. The white background visually expands the space. Green accents trick your brain into enjoying the fresh outdoors.

Place the mezzanine bedroom above the lounge area. When sitting down, the low ceiling height above the sofa isn’t much of an issue.

Choose an open staircase design with no risers to give a light impact to a small space.

Create a mezzanine staircase from your kitchen cabinets.

A glass floor ensures that sunlight streams into the space below the mezzanine. This bedroom design uses a Murphy bed to keep the glass floor clean throughout the day.

Take advantage of the small landing area with mini-closet.

By pushing the bed out onto the limbs, this mezzanine layout creates space for a dedicated home office area.

Another nifty staircase idea, these treads extrude directly from the built-in floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.

A small kitchen slides under the ramp of this industrial metal staircase design. Black metal railings create a bold cage around the bedroom.

Create a bedroom right above the front door.

A skylight fills this elevated bedroom area with natural light. The shaded area underneath makes a living room suitable for a projector.

An all-white interior helps streamline the look of the mezzanine level, adjacent staircase, and integrated kitchen below.

White décor fades this raised bedroom area into the background, while the wooden structure makes the wall a warm focal point in the living room.

Form an abstract minimalist vision with overlapping white volumes.

Separate the bedroom and living zone by color.

In the children’s room, the mezzanine platform opens up more space for play and study.

This loft bed becomes a space for a children’s TV lounge.

Create an inviting window seat halfway up the mezzanine staircase to further enhance your living space.

Adopt bright and bold living room accent furniture to distract from the mezzanine.

Make the most of your extra floor space by giving your mezzanine a dual purpose. A sofa bed is provided, so you can use it as a lounge during the day.

Get creative with your railing design and get a positive function instead of a safety duty.

Integrate the design nicely with the tower of colors. This black volume sits satisfactorily along the baby blue focal wall. See more inspiration here.

Carve a curved design.

Create a cozy nook away from the hustle and bustle. See more images of this small space-saving apartment in New York.

Build your bedroom around a skylight so you can dream under the stars.

Stand the central cube up so it doesn’t block the large windows.

This bold bedroom cube has a stand-alone aesthetic. Its dark wood tones create a contrast between the striking TV wall and the rest of the white living space forming an open front wardrobe.

A stylish front door that you won’t notice passing under your bedroom.

Slim, concise materials are key in this barely-there mezzanine design.

A mezzanine staircase provides access to every nook and cranny of potential storage space.

Line the underside of the platform with attractive wood panels to create a comfortable feature.

Combine a home office at the end of the bed with a recessed space, an under bed wardrobe and a convenient vanity area to make one small space fit for everyone.
